On
Tuesday 1 April, we read a book all about pants!! Written by Giles
Andreae and illustrated by Nick Sharratt, Pants has been a previous
Red House Children’s Book Award winner. It’s a lovely rhyme about
all the many different types of pants there are.
Obviously
the children loved the subject matter, and many entered into the
spirit of the book by wearing their pants on their head! (There was
even a sighting of one mum participating in this trend, but she shall
remain anonymous!)
The
illustrations are bright and inspiring, so after reading the book, we
took to designing our own pants, which we decorated and stuck to pegs
and hung on our own string washing lines to take home. Marks and
Spencer will be recruiting their next generation of underwear
designers from Maesycoed Primary!
All that
designing is hard work, so we moved on to some refreshments. Our
‘pants sandwiches’ went down a storm. We buttered our bread and
spread our jam, then we cut our sandwiches into the shape of pants.
They were delicious. Some children probably didn’t eat much for
their tea. With dough to mould and activity sheets to complete, we
rounded off the session nicely.
There is
no Ziggies After School Club for the next 4 weeks, so we’ll be back
on Tuesday 6 May, when we’ll be reading ‘Dig, Dig, Digging’ by
Margaret Mayo. So if you’re in year 1 and would like to join us,
please come along with your grown up and any brothers or sisters you
may have. Bring a copy of the book (if you have one). We’ll be in
the middle block hall from 3.15 – 4.15pm.
Hope to
see you there.
