Dig, Dig, Digging

On Tuesday 7 October, in Ziggies After School Club, we read ‘Dig, Dig Digging’ by Margaret Mayo. This is a lovely book about all sorts of vehicles which ‘can work all day’! There are diggers, helicopters, car transporters, tractors and road rollers all included in the book, which explains how each one is used in simple rhyming text.

After the story, we made moveable diggers and painted pictures of roads and building sites, and stuck on pictures of the vehicles in the book.  We also dug in the sand to find the letters in our own names. We buried them again for the other children to find. We made 3D models of houses and decorated them, before doing word searches, puzzles and colouring which all related to the story.

Ziggies After School Club will be back on Tuesday 14 October, from 3.15pm – 4.15pm in the Middle Block Hall, when we’ll be reading ‘Handa’s Surprise’ by Eileen Browne. So if you’re in year 1 or year 2, please come along with your grown up and a copy of the book (if you have one), and any brothers or sisters you may have, to join us for some stories, craft and fun.

Pants!

On Tuesday 30 September, in Ziggies After School Club, we read ‘Pants’ by Giles Andreae. Some of the children joined in with the fun by wearing their pants on their heads and ‘going crazy’ just like in the story! The book is full of colourful illustrations of all kinds of pants with a rhyming text showing when you could wear all the different kinds of pants there are.

After the story, we made pants sandwiches, of chocolate spread or jam and cut them into little pants shapes. Most of these didn’t make it home! We also designed and decorated card pants and glued them to pegs to hang on a washing line, and we used dough to shape our own versions of the pants in the story.  Then we did our word searches, puzzles and colouring which all related to the story.
