On Tuesday 18
February, we read ‘The Snail and the Whale’ by Julia Donaldson. Some children
were familiar with the story, but it was new to lots of the children and their
grown ups. It’s a lovely inspirational tale of how a tiny snail saved the life
of a huge whale. After reading the story, the children were set a challenge of
finding the Gruffalo in the book. Lots of children found him and so did some
grown ups (with a bit of help!!).
We made paper
plate snails and decorated their shells with lots of bits of coloured paper,
and we made snail and whale mobiles with straws, card and wool to dangle at
home. There was also lots of play dough to make models with, and activity
sheets to test our memories of the story.
We’ll be back
in Ziggies After School Club on Tuesday 4 March, when we’ll be asking ‘A
Gruffalo? What’s a Gruffalo?’ So if you’re in year 1 and fancy some fun in the
deep, dark wood, please come along with your grown up and a copy of the book
(if you have one), and join us in the middle block hall from 3.15 – 4.15pm.
