The Very
Hungry Caterpillar
On Tuesday 16
September, Ziggies After School Club started up again for all the children in
the middle block and their brothers and sisters. We had a special visit from
Ziggy the caterpillar and his best friend Freckle the frog. They came to
welcome all our Ziggies friends from last year who came back to join us, and
all our new friends who were coming to Ziggies for the first time. It was
lovely to see so many people there.
As Ziggy is a
caterpillar, we chose The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle as our book for
this week. Ziggy sat and helped with the story about a hungry caterpillar who
ate lots and lots of food, before going to sleep for a while and waking up as a
beautiful butterfly.
We decorated
butterflies to hang up at home and made caterpillar bookmarks to keep in our
favourite books. We also made play dough models of butterflies and caterpillars
and did the usual selection of word searches, puzzles and quiz questions to see
how much we remembered about the story. After squash and a biscuit, we had
photos with Ziggy and Freckle before it was time to leave.
Ziggies After
School Club will be back on Tuesday 23 September, from 3.15pm – 4.15pm in the
Middle Block Hall. We will be reading ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ by Michael
Rosen. So if you’re in year 1 or year 2, please come along with your grown up
and a copy of the book (if you have one), and any brothers or sisters you may
have, to join us for some stories, craft and fun.
